Air-cooled heat exchangers are used extensively throughout the oil and gas industry, from upstream production to refineries and petrochemical plants, under high pressure and high temperature conditions, as well as corrosive fluids and environments.
Shell and Tube & Air-Cooled Heat Exchangers Petro-TechThey are commonly used in oil refineries and high-end chemical processes, and other high-pressure applications. Each Shell and Tube Exchanger consists of four major components:the shell, tube bundle, front header, and rear header. In the exchanger, fluid flows inside and over tubes within the shell to reach the appropriate temperatures.
The hot medium (e.g. hot water or lube oil) flows through the heat exchanger within the large number of externally finned tubes. One or more fans force air across the tubes and the heat from the hot medium is transferred to the air. To maximize heat transfer, the tubes are equipped with fins that increase the area in contact with the air.
